TAM Projection 2012 - 2016 for Chromatix App
For the TAM 5 year projection we looked closely at apps that had similar demographically speaking users to our market target.
We after a deep research we decided that our TAM would be the US women at an age range from 20 to 34 years old, with a college degree that would own an android smartphone.
From the US census we took the population projections for the next 5 years, the percentage of women from 20 to 34 years and that would have a college degree. For the smartphone and android users growth we looked for online specialized publications. All the sources are at the end of this post.
At the end we got really interesting results. Our estimated TAM would be 4.4 million women in the US with a very interesting growth rate in the next 5 years that would result in a TAM of 14.5 by 2016.

Vision of the Team chromatix
According to professional marketers, by 2015 shoppers around the world are expected to spend around $119 billion USD on goods and services purchased via mobile phones, which represents 8% of the total global e-commerce market. In the USA alone, e-commerce is worth $218 billion USD, of which 17% is generated by women buying “shoes, clothing and accesories. We want to take a piece of this juicy pie by increasing the share of shopping in mobile devices.
To do this, we have developed chromatix, mostly for women that own smartphones (51% of female mobile subscribers in the USA). Considering that 85% of shoppers place colour as a primary reason for buying a particular product (KISSmetrics), chromatix will offer these women a whole new shopping experience in which they can discover items based on the colours they love. All they have to do is capture colours around them using their smartphone camera and then browse their shopping options and pay for them. Simple, fun and interactive.
The app then would also be able to suggest matching colours and combinations, enriching thus the experience and generating more transactions. In the end, we envision a shopping experience so simple and delightful, that anyone with a smartphone will be able to be shopping by colour in no time.
Colour will only be the first step in gaining a foothold in the mobile e-commerce. Other elements could come: context, patterns, shapes, etc. Our vision is completed once we have made the mobile shopping experience so simple and fun, that literally anyone with a smartphone can be using it to shop in no time. Ultimately we want to nail the impulse shopping market via mobile through great design and simple interphases.

Elance, Our Faithful Companion in StartupBus
StartupBus is an intense competition. Translation: it entails massive amounts of hard work. We’re building a business from scratch here, so there’s lots to be done on different and simultaneous fronts: coding + programming, design, business end, etc.
That said, we have been lucky to have an extra option working on our behalf during the competition. I’m talking about the guys at Elance (http://elance.com). Elance is a platform where freelancers offer their professional services and skills to anyone who needs them. In other words, they make these connections possible, thanks to their ever-growing network of subscribers.
In the case of chromatix, we got assistance in the form of market research, competitor analysis and legal advice. While we were working in the core value parts of the project, such as building and hustling, the guys at Elance were helping us move ahead by getting some needed extra tasks done. It was great to have them on our side.
Elance has been the official sponsor of StartupBus and we are grateful for their generous contributions to all of our projects. To learn more about Elance, watch the video and visit their website. Who knows, their freelancers might be the answer for your needs!
